Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between gold plated and gold filled jewelry?

Gold plated jewelry consists of a thin layer of gold around a base metal such as steel or brass. Usually gold plated consists of less only 0.05% gold. Gold filled jewelry is a very thick layer of gold around a small piece of base metal. Gold filled jewelry is less likely to tarnish, is extremely durable, and looks just like solid gold at an extremely lower price point. All of my gold plated jewelry is coated by hand with an anti-tarnish coating, extending a pieces durability and integrity.

What is your jewelry coating and how does it work?

The anti-tarnish jewelry coating applied to every piece is durable and long lasting meant to protect from tarnishing and corrosion developed from water, sweat, and other liquids that may cause damage. The coating also protects the wearer against allergic reactions to any base metal that may be accidentally exposed to the skin on the piece. The coating is one of the most durable on the market and was developed to last.

What jewelry doesn’t tarnish?

While no jewelry is entirely tarnish proof, there are certain metals and finishes that are less likely to tarnish and oxidize. These include gold filled, sterling silver, stainless steel, brass, titanium, and solid gold. I’ve chosen materials in my collections to be these metals for quality and durability and the type of metal, whether its gold filled or plated, will be listed in all of the descriptions. The layer of anti-tarnish jewelry coating I hand apply also extends the life of the piece, doubling the protection. While these are steps I have taken to ensure product quality, it’s also very important to take care of each piece.

Why does some jewelry turn skin green?

Green skin from jewelry is caused by a chemical reaction between your skin and the metal in the jewelry. Typically it’s caused by sweat, lotion, or soap on your skin. This chemical reaction is not dangerous at all and can be washed off using water, and when needed, soap. I strive to make all of my jewelry out of metals that won’t turn your skin green and by coating each piece with an anti tarnish coating.

What materials are you using?

The materials in each piece consist of gold filled, sterling silver, gold plated stainless steel, gold plated brass, and culinary grade lead free pewter. Every gemstone is genuine. In some pieces I use hand painted ceramics and vintage beads, which will be noted in the description of the piece.
